Darren Utting B.E. (Civil) hons. B.A. Engl.Lit and Resource Management Law

With 25 years experience in professional civil engineering practice in New Zealand and the UK, Darren’s mix of arts and resource management law qualifications propelled him into some of the first stakeholder management roles in New Zealand. Prior to starting S2 Darren worked for an infrastructure strategy and planning consultancy, developing the multi-agency business case for the New Lynn Rail Trench, a project he also led through construction as stakeholder manager to deliver central, regional and local government aspects of the project scope. The social and community outcomes of this project, in addition to more common construction success indicators, inspired Darren to develop this niche work and start S in 2008.

Led by Company Director Darren Utting, S associates and employees have a track record for delivering award winning projects in some of New Zealand’s most challenging and complex community and multi-agency contexts.

S personnel have positive and enduring relationships with national and multi-national infrastructure clients, regulatory agencies, and iwi. These established networks bring real value to new construction projects, their clients, and the clients’ customers.
We work seamlessly within planning, design and construction teams within a range of contractual models and find that our principles of transparency, trust, proactive communication, risk perception and management apply commonly across all successful projects. We recognise that while projects have limited lifespans, reputations and relationships between public infrastructure procurers, the public and key stakeholders extend well before and after project completion.
